HIPPY – Our free early language and literacy program!
The Home Interaction Program for Parents and Youngsters (HIPPY) is a free, two-year, home-based language and literacy enrichment program for families with young children. The first year of the program commences in the year prior to the child attending Prep (3½ - 4 years old). During the second year of the program, the child may also be attending school (Prep).

The HIPPY approach develops the foundations for learning in the home during children’s crucial early years. The benefits of the HIPPY Program for children include encouraging a love of learning, it prepares children for school by developing skills & concentration, HIPPY promotes language & listening and builds self-esteem & confidence. HIPPY increases the chances of a successful early school experience.
The benefits of the HIPPY program for families include helping families create a learning environment at home, increases knowledge of how children learn and HIPPY allows families to enjoy fun, positive time with children.
HIPPY - How does the program work?
A Co-ordinator is employed to manage the day-to-day aspects of the program along with two Home Tutors. The Home Tutors do not need any formal qualifications as they are fully trained & supported by the HIPPY Co-ordinator. Home Tutors visit the homes of families enrolled in HIPPY and host regular group meetings with all HIPPY participants. Home Tutors ‘role play’ activities with parents and the parent then spends time during the following week, completing the same activities with their child.
HIPPY Bundaberg is funded by the Australian Government Department of Education through the Home interaction Program for Parents and Youngsters.
